Kiwanians Challenge All Service Clubs To Match Donation

The Arroyo Grande Community Hospital (AGCH) Foundation recently accepted a generous donation of $25,000 from the Greater Pismo Beach Kiwanis Club for the hospital’s newly opened Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center. Members of the club presented the check to Rick Castro, AGCH President and Montisa Phelan Lopez, AGCH Foundation Executive Director.

Now, the Kiwanis Club is challenging all local service clubs to match their donation to the hospital cancer campaign. “We’re inviting all local service clubs to match our donation,” says Chuck Bowles, Kiwanis Club President. “We realize that to have a cancer center of this caliber in our community takes continued financial support to help keep the best people there along with the latest equipment.”

“Today thanks to this amazing community, we are only $100,000 away from our initial goal for this cancer center," says Montisa Phelan Lopez. “Our community is so fortunate to have dedicated service clubs that understand the ongoing needs of the cancer center. “

With the generous donations from community partners, physicians, hospital employees and a host of volunteers, the AGCH Foundation has raised the $1.4 million of $1.5 million needed to meet the financial goal set for the Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center. With continued community support, the cancer center can thrive and continue to attract the best and the brightest staff, as well as maintaining the most up-to-date technologies.

The Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center, championed by local physicians, opened in early June, as planned. The center features a multidisciplinary team approach to cancer care, allowing physicians to coordinate a patient’s treatment plan resulting not only in better patient outcomes, but also a more comprehensive healing experience. It provides cancer patients and families access to the most current cancer information and innovative treatment options in a comfortable, convenient local setting. The facility features the latest in diagnostic technology including digital mammography with stereo-tactic biopsy and Ultrasound scanning. It also provides ancillary services such as nutritional education, spiritual counseling and other social support.

The AGCH Foundation is looking for donors to invest in the future of compassionate cancer care and nurture the seeds of hope. All forms of charitable donations are welcome.
