Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit is an 8-bed fully monitored unit, including one isolation room.
Arroyo Grande Community Hospital(AGCH) Intensive Care offers intensive nursing services and monitoring for critically ill adult and adolescent patients. Patients are treated by Internal Medicine physicians and/or Intensivists (Medical Doctors who have years of experience and who specialize in caring for the critically ill).
Pediatric patients between 5-12 years of age may be cared for on a short-term basis, but are limited to simple orthopedic and surgical cases.
Frequent diagnoses for patients admitted to ICU include:
- Acute Myocardial Infarction
- CVA
- Cardiac Dysrhythmia
- Congestive Heart Failure
- Sepsis
- Shock
- Major Abdominal Surgery
- Respiratory Failure
- Diabetes
- Drug Overdose
- GI Bleeding
State of the Art Technology
State of the art technology is utilized to care for those patients requiring ventilator support or cardiac monitoring, including temporary pacemakers and permanent pacemaker insertion.
The nurses in the intensive care unit are specialty trained, and have varied but specialized backgrounds in intensive/critical care. Many of our registered nurses have been in this specialty for 10-20 years or more. Under most circumstances, one registered nurse cares for only two patients at once, however with more severe cases the ratio is 1:1.
