Pain Sufferers Learn The Many Options When Facing Surgery

If you suffer from the debilitating pain of arthritis in your joints and need a knee or hip replacement, you can learn about all of the options available at a free healthcare lecture called “Joint Preservation & Arthritis: What's Available & What's Coming”. The event, conducted by leading Board Certified orthopedic surgeon Thomas D. Ferro, M.D., will be held at the Cliffs Resort in Shell Beach on Thursday evening, August 26, 2010, starting at 6:30 pm. (see flier)

Attendees of this informative event will learn from Dr. Ferro about the importance of considering all of the options available before surgery. He will explain why sparing cartilage and ligament is so important in joint replacements, and how “resurfacing” a hip or knee can give patients a much quicker recovery and outcome compared to a total joint replacement. Dr. Ferro will also explain what a uni and bi-compartmental knee resurfacing procedure entails as well as using robots in the treatment of joint replacement surgery helps with accuracy. He will also present the latest news about stem cells use in joint replacements.

Arroyo Grande Community Hospital is proud of the achievements it has earned for its Joint Replacement program including earning a five star rating for the seventh year in a row from HealthGrades®. (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010). Additionally, AGCH has also earned the Blue Distinction* Award from Blue Cross and Blue Shield for its Joint Replacement program. “Arroyo Grande Community Hospital performs more successful joint replacement surgeries than any other hospital per year in San Luis Obispo County,” says Rick Castro, AGCH President and CEO. “At this lecture on August 26th, I think they’ll quickly understand why we have such an excellent program.”

Because space is limited, reservations are required for the August 26th lecture, “Joint Preservation & Arthritis: What's Available & What's Coming”. The lecture will be held in one of the downstairs banquet rooms the Cliffs Resort located at 2757 Shell Beach Road, in Shell Beach. Valet parking will be available as well as an elevator for handicapped attendees. This free, informative event will begin at 6:30 pm with complimentary desserts and refreshments. The power point lecture with Dr. Ferro will begin at 7:00 pm followed by a question and answer period at 8:00 pm.
