Local Non-Profit Community Grants

CHW Hospitals Offer Local Non-Profit Community Grants

The Catholic Healthcare West hospitals on the Central Coast which include Arroyo Grande Community Hospital (AGCH), French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC), and Marian Medical Center (MMC) are proud to announce that each are accepting applications for the 2011 Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) Community Grants Program. The intent of the annual community grant program is to help local nonprofit organizations who have an interest in building healthier communities by improving the health and quality of life for our residents. Each hospital has separate grant funds available and will likely be divided among several grant recipients. These funds are: from AGCH - $25,000; from FHMC - $40,758; and from MMC - $94,034.

The criteria for the 2011 grants will focus on the following areas: cardiac wellness; cancer prevention; resources and education; diabetes prevention and management; general healthcare education and disease prevention; and outreach to the underserved. Projects that address at least one of these areas and demonstrate the mission and core values of CHW will be given priority.

The CHW Community Grants Program is designed to help communities provide support for undeserved populations. The program, which is funded by contributions from its member hospitals, is one way CHW supports and enhances the advocacy, social justice and healthier communities’ efforts of its hospitals.

Some of last year’s local Community Grant recipients include the Arroyo Grande High School, Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens, the El Camino Homeless Organization, Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County, Good Samaritan Shelter, Inc., Santa Maria Valley YMCA, and Transition Food & Shelter.

Grant materials including the Letter of Intent (LOI), Grant Application, and Program Brochure are available at www.chwHEALTH.org/communitygrants.

All LOI’s are due no later than Friday, August 20, 2010 by 5 p.m. After review by a local volunteer grants committee, several organizations will be invited to submit a full proposal in October, and the CHW Investment Committee will approve the final grant in early December.
