Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center Officially Opens

More than 300 community members, health care workers and AGCH staff members attended the Grand Opening Celebration of the new Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center on Thursday, June 26, 2008. The state of the art facility located in the Pismo Beach Medical Campus is the first of its kind on the Central Coast. It was funded by the generosity of local donors including three initial donations of $250,000 each. The remaining $750,000 needed to open the center, was raised in six months by the Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in the Grand Opening celebration of our new cancer center,” said Montisa Phelan Lopez, AGCH Foundation Executive Director. “As always, I am truly grateful for all the wonderful people that I have the privilege to work with here at AGCH. It is so great to be part of this family”

The Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center backed by local physicians, expects to treat up to 1500 new cancer patients each year. Patients will receive a multidisciplinary team approach to care including the latest in diagnostic technology such as digital mammography with stererotactic biopsy, ultrasound and PET/CT scanning. Ancillary services such as nutritional counseling and education and other social support will also be available for patients.
