Spiritual Care Services

Spiritual Care Services

Arroyo Grande Community Hospital offers the services of a chaplain for patients and visitors. In the midst of illness, crisis or loss, the hospital chaplain is here to support patients along with their families and loved ones. Staff chaplains are available:

  • To offer spiritual and emotional support
  • To foster hope and be a comforting presence
  • To accompany those in crisis or grief
  • To share prayer, scripture, and offer or facilitate sacraments
  • To consult and assist in reflecting on ethical concerns and
  • To connect patients and families with their faith community and/or social support systems

Chaplains make regular rounds and are available seven days a week between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If you are a patient or visitor and would like to arrange a visit, you may ask your nurse to contact the chaplain. In the event of an after-hours emergency, the nurse supervisor can contact the staff chaplain to arrange for emergency spiritual support.

The chaplain’s office is located in the annex building behind the hospital. Drop in visits are always welcome. The chaplain’s office is the first door on the left after entering the Human Resources office area.

Prayer & Reflection Spaces

Chapel
The Chapel at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital is located on the southwest side of the building. After going through the hospital’s main entrance, turn right and go down nearly to the end of the hallway. It’s located through the 2nd to last door on the right. The chapel is available for prayer and reflection 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Patients and family members are invited to utilize this space for prayer and reflection. Patients may come in hospital attire. Prayer cards are also available in the chapel.

Healing Garden
The Healing Garden is accessible through the doorway outside of the ICU. This space is available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. for patients and family members. In the garden there is a “Peace Pole” that says “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in ten languages. This pole conveys the hope we have for our patients and our world. There is also a pet therapy area available to patients on the west side of the garden (details regarding pet therapy visits can be arranged by your nurse).
