Why Use The Joint Center At AGCH?
Restoring Motion and Improving Lives
Arroyo Grande Community Hospital has become the hospital of choice for joint replacement surgery on the Central Coast. We are proud of this reputation and are committed to continuous improvement of our Joint Replacement Program.
We're not just in the business of taking care of people, we're in the business of making a difference in people's lives.
About Joint Replacement Surgery
Joint replacement if a surgical procedure to remove and replace an arthritic or damaged joint with an artificial one (called a prosthesis), and is considered only after other treatment options have failed to provide adequate relief from pain and/or disability.
Your orthopaedic (orthopedic) surgeon will ultimately recommend a joint replacement if it is best suited for your condition.
You Are Not Alone
Over half a million people annually in the United States alone undergo joint replacement procedures, mostly involving the hip and knee. At AGCH, we perform hundreds of knee and hip surgeries a year. We focus on improving the quality of patients' lives by enabling pain-free movement and, hopefully, a successful return to the activities they once enjoyed. AGCH has developed a comprehensive Joint Replacement Program with their patients' well being in mind.
Multi-Disciplinary Team
The Joint Center is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team made up of physicians, nurses, physical therapists and case managers. Working together, these skilled professionals provide a full complement of patient services:
- Pre-operative Education Class
- Advance planning for hospital care and post hospital care
- On-site rehabilitation
- Discharge plans, addressing special patient needs
A Totally Different Approach
At AGCH's Joint Center, our goal is to get our patients back on their feet-both physically and psychologically. Our team offer a much different level of care than most facilities, designed to inspire and achieve a high level of patient success. This means that you will play an active role in your healthcare plan, working with our staff to develop and maintain a positive outlook throughout the rehabilitation process as you achieve/regain maximum functional mobility.
Getting Educated and Informed
A special education component has been developed for patients who will be having joint replacement surgery at our facility.
All patients will attend a "What to Expect" seminar prior to their surgery. A nurse and a physical therapist will review what to expect on the day of surgery, post-surgery and at discharge. This is a great opportunity to have questions answered and put minds at ease.
Easing The Transition To Home
After joint replacement surgery, some patients may require additional healthcare services, such as physical therapy, before going home. AGCH offers a perfect solution: The Transitional Care Unit. Patients enjoy the convenience and the peace of mind of not having to relocate to another facility, which may be out of the local area. Admission to the TCU is prescribed by your personal physician and facilitated by your case manager and the TCU staff.
