What is a Hospitalist?
A hospitalist is an internist or family practice physician who specializes in providing care to hospitalized patients. Each or our hospitalists leads a hospital based team consisting of physicians, nurses, case managers and other healthcare professionals-who all work together to make your hospital stay comfortable while addressing your medical and social needs quickly and efficiently.
How does it work?
After consulting with your personal physician, it may be determined that your medical needs are best served by admitting you to the hospital. Our Hospitalist Team will be contacted to be responsible for your care throughout your hospital stay. From admission through discharge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, your care will be coordinated by the Hospitalist Team. They will remain in close contact with your personal physician concerning your admission, hospital treatment and progress and discharge. Their objective is to make your hospital stay as personal and comfortable as possible.
At Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, you'll receive the attention you need most from our hospitalist physician whose practice is based right here at the hospital. Since our hospitalists specialize in in-patient medicine, you'll have the benefit of a physician-led team that is able to focus on your medical needs while you're in the hospital. And, they’ll be there for you and your family. Following your discharge, your personal physician will resume caring for you.
The Hospitalist program assures that during your stay at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, a physician is always available to provide you with personal care. And, this increased efficiency means optimum care for you when you need it most. No one wants to be in a hospital, but when it happens, it's always comforting to know that a physician can answer any additional questions you may have.

The Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Hospitalist program was the first of it's kind to begin on the Central Coast. Many hospitals around the country use a Hospitalist as a part of their medical staff team.
